You’ve got a handful of letters - maybe from a word game, a puzzle, or a random set - and you need to know what words you can make. This page is built for that. Type in the letters, and the tool returns every valid word you can form, sorted by length. It’s the fastest way to go from scrambled letters to usable words.
Why this page exists
Other pages on this site focus on specific use cases: Scrabble, Words With Friends, jumble puzzles, crosswords. This page is the generic version. Use it when you don’t have a specific game in mind - just letters and a need for words. It’s also the best starting point if you’re not sure which tool you need.
How to use the length filter effectively
The length filter is your best friend. If you know the answer is a 5-letter word, set min and max to 5. If you’re open to any length, leave it at the default (2 to max). Here’s when to use specific lengths:
- **2-3 letters** – Good for Scrabble when you have few tiles or need to play off a short word.
- **4-5 letters** – Common for word games and puzzles.
- **6-7 letters** – Often the target for jumble puzzles or bingo plays in Scrabble.
- **8+ letters** – Rare, but useful for anagram games or when you have a long rack.
Using wildcards for unknown letters
If you have a blank tile in Scrabble or an unknown letter in a crossword, use the question mark (?) as a wildcard. For example, entering ?A?E? will return words like CABLE, TABLE, and MAPLE. You can use multiple wildcards in one search. This is especially useful when you know the pattern but not the exact letters.
When the answer must use every letter
Some puzzles require you to use every letter exactly once. For example, a jumble puzzle gives you 6 letters and expects a 6-letter word. In that case, set the exact length to match your letters, then manually check the longest words in the results. If you don’t see the option, the tool still shows all words, so just focus on the ones that match the total letter count.
Common mistakes to avoid
- **Entering spaces** – The tool treats spaces as characters. Enter letters without spaces.
- **Forgetting to filter** – If you get too many results, use the length filter to narrow it down.
- **Ignoring short words** – In Scrabble, a 2-letter word can be a game-changer. Don’t overlook them.
- **Using the wrong dictionary** – Make sure the tool’s dictionary matches your game. This tool uses a standard word list, but some games have their own.
Try it with unscramble letters
Enter tca?rs, leave the length blank, and solve once. Start by scanning the longest results, then add a length filter if the puzzle slot is fixed. If you are using a blank tile, keep the wildcard in the input until you know which letter gives the strongest result.
Choose the right word tool
Use this page when you have letters or constraints and need to narrow possible words quickly. If the constraint changes, switch tools: pattern pages for fixed blanks, Wordle pages for colored clues, crossword pages for crossings, and anagram pages when every letter must be used.
Common Questions
What words can I make with these letters?
Enter your letters into the input field. The tool will generate every valid word from the dictionary, grouped by length.
Do I have to use every letter?
No. The tool shows words that use any subset of your letters. If you need to use all letters, look for the longest words or manually compare the result against every letter you entered.
Can I use wildcards or blank tiles?
Yes. Use the question mark (?) to represent any single letter. You can use multiple wildcards.
Can I filter by word length?
Yes. Use the length filter to set an exact word length. This is the most useful filter for narrowing results.
Can I exclude letters from results?
This page doesn’t have an exclude filter. For that, use the full Word Unscrambler page.
Before you use the word list
Before you use a result, check the constraint that matters most for your puzzle: exact length, required letters, excluded letters, or whether every tile must be used. Tighten only one filter at a time so you can see which rule removed the right candidates.
