Set the length first
Enter the answer length before adding other filters. Length removes most of the dictionary immediately, which makes the remaining contains, starts with, ends with, and exclude filters easier to scan.
Combine length with letter rules
- Use letters when you have a rack or a group of available letters.
- Use contains when the answer must include one or more letters.
- Use starts with for prefix-style clues and word games.
- Use ends with for rhymes, suffixes, and crossword crossings.
- Use pattern only when positions are known.
